Twin Mattress

Sydney was waking herself up at night in her crib. She needed more space. She's a wild sleeper. I was the same way at that age. So we went out and bought a bunk bed. She's been sleeping on the mattresses only for the past two weeks. She loves having a big girl bed. She has no interest in the crib anymore. However, it's been A ROUGH ADJUSTMENT. She wants mama to sleep with her. She has fallen off a few times. I"m wondering if that has scared her. I've been thinking about getting her a night light. I"m going crazy at night. It is so hard to get her down now. And now she wakes up in the night. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Persistence is key. Eventually it gets better. We typically transition the kids from the crib to a toddler bed at about 1yr. They've fallen off at nights a few times and cry & we've had to go in an put them back up. It's not a far drop so it's just more a shock than anything. It took a few days to help them learn how to climb up and down on it. We ended up going to home depot and got a small piece of plywood and hammered it to the bed than that acts as a rail, after a few weeks or so we take it off or just turn the bed around so the plywood is against the wall & see if that helps. Than just before we head off to bed we go in and quietly slide them back over to the center or by the wall.

As for bunk beds we typically wait until about 2yrs or older and even than its the bottom bunk. Also try not to get into the habit of letting them sleep with you as this is also a tough habit to break.

Try not to get in the habit of going in all the time otherwise you might never break that habit. We haven't ever done a night light just because we don't want them to have those things in order to sleep. We've just talked with them and explained to them how they are big kids now etc just constant reminders and talking with them.

We ended up getting a radio/cd player and started playing the primary songs for them at night for a couple of weeks, now they have no problems sleeping.

At bed time we will go in and either read a short book with them or sing a couple of songs with them and than they know its time for mommy/daddy to go in the front room and for them to be a big boy or big girl and they do just fine.
